From Debora Pazetto’s Instagram: “For Women, it is very difficult to drive a man. And that’s not a physical issue. It is difficult for our subjectivity to believe that we can appropriate a male body, determine the paths he must follow, use it to express ourselves artistically, sustain his weight, choose his movements. It’s hard because our body and our psychism were trained for the opposite situation, and not just in dance… in life.
Mutual driving was the technique that gave me the necessary instruments to overcome this barrier. To learn to really drive, not just follow a protocol of steps in which the person conducted is levinha and trail pre-defined paths. Driving, in the flow of a mutual dance (in which todes can drive at the same time) requires a deep understanding of strength vectors, mass junction, levers relation, weight and counterweight.
As a woman, even more, as a woman who was trained to be a lady, I need to say that this technique made revolution in my body and And that’s all that holds my desire to teach her, especially to other women: Revolution, freedom, emancipation.
Me and Samuel Samways facilitate mutual driving workshops. To know about our agenda and learn more about our work, follow the contemporary ballroom dance page: https://www.facebook.com/dancadesalaocontemporanea/”
